That was May 5th, 2005, making this the “official” 5-year anniversary for the business. Rust Creative actually began in 2000 as a small side business while I was working full-time for industry leaders Comp Cams® and Buckaroo Communications. After a brief stint working with PR firm, Automedia 2000, I decided it was time to make Rust Creative a full-time gig.

Rust Creative has long since moved out of that spare bedroom in Ventura, California and into several others before recently finding the perfect spare bedroom to call headquarters in the seemingly nondescript town of Maryville, Tennessee… You may be wondering why, when and where…. Well, it’s a long story, but to make things short, I’m originally from Maryville, TN and having had more than my fill of fun living in sunny Southern California for the past ten years it was a natural transition… Oddly enough, Maryville and Ventura, are only about one degree away from each other in latitude which may explain why I felt so at home in Ventura…

Maryville lies just outside of Knoxville and while it may lack the fine surfing spots of Ventura, it claims the Great Smoky Mountains National Park as its backyard. Aside from the gorgeous landscape of rolling hills, majestic farmland and colorful mountains, the area also offers tons of fun activities from hiking, biking, boating and of course lots of hot rods, racing and off-road excitement. Much like Ventura, it’s packed with opportunities for business and leisure, but for only half the price.

Shortly after moving to Maryville a year ago, I made another huge leap and tied the knot with my wonderful wife Jennifer. Hailing from Detroit, Jennifer is a car nut like me and has become instrumental in operation of Rust Creative. With a grand finale move for the year, Jennifer and I purchased a house here in Maryville, which is now the new world headquarters for Rust Creative. The house would look right at home on “Little House On The Prairie” but much like a hot rod, it was built by hand and features all of the nice modern amenities of any modern home. Best of all, it has a decent-sized barn that is well on its way to becoming a serious garage.

While the new office may be smaller than previous locations, I have engineered and organized it to work better than any other office I’ve had. To maximize space, I decided to build a custom desk that would fit my needs and me perfectly. With a sliding printer cabinet, shelves and a file cabinet, the desk makes the most of space in the room. To match the look of the house, the desktop was constructed with local river rocks and epoxy for a unique look and “rock-solid” surface. A fully adjustable keyboard and mouse tray keeps it safe and ergonomic for plugging in those 14-hour days building websites. The desk takes up half of the room and the other half is reserved for setting up product photo shoots. It really is the perfect size for everything that Rust Creative does….

Stay tuned as Rust Creative moves ahead with all of the many projects in process.
